In September 2022, the Bishop Museum Corporate Relations team partnered with local author, Minnie Ko, to launch the children’s book, The Journey for Rainbows.
The Journey for Rainbows is a children’s book written by Minnie Ko and illustrated by artist Sosuk Ko, who captures the vibrancy of the Island using bright colors in her paintings of O‘ahu.
“This book is a visual interpretation of my mom’s immigration story — moving from Korea to Hawai‘i in the 1970s. The overarching message she shares is, ‘If you think positive and continue to work hard, your dreams will come true.’” – Minnie Ko, author and President of MKO Corporation
During the event, the illustrator and author signed and gifted books to each attending guest. Following, Sosuk Ko shared comments during the book viewing and discussion. Afterwards, guests were welcomed to view the paintings up close and speak further with the co-creators.
“Bishop Museum is a place where we can share our collective stories. We were glad the Ko ‘ohana wanted to partner with us to share their family story of immigration, learning, and aloha for the Hawaiian islands and culture.” – Milton Lafitaga, Director of Corporate Relations and Partnerships at Bishop Museum
