BISHOP’S BIRTHDAY IS CELEBRATED.
This past Monday, Charles R. Bishop made eighty-seven years old. He is one of the old-time haole here in Hawaiʻi, who Hawaiʻi is greatly indebted to due to his efforts to seek out and strengthen the rights and the forward movement of Hawaiʻi nei.
His friends held a remembrance on that day, and so too did the Kamehameha Schools, the school which his wife Mrs. Bernice Pauahi established for the youth of her own people.
He now is permanently residing in San Francisco, however his name and his fine endeavors are being hailed here in Hawaiʻi, and that is how his friends here in Honolulu commemorated his birthday.
We state without a doubt, that congratulatory letters by a great many of his friends here in Honolulu were sent to him aboard the steamships arriving in San Francisco these days.
This post is part of He Aupuni Palapala: Preserving and Digitizing the Hawaiian Language Newspapers, a partnership between Bishop Museum and Awaiaulu with assistance from Kamehameha Schools. Mahalo nui loa to Hawaii Tourism Authority for their support. Learn more about this project here.
