COMMEMORATING LĀ KŪʻOKOʻA.
The Jubilee of Hawaiʻi nei was Held at
North Kohala, Hawaiʻi.
Mr. Editor:
Being the patriots here in the district of North Kohala were in agreement, they upheld the glory of commemorating this day under the direction of S. L. Kealohaokalani, the chairman of the Hawaiian Patriotic League of North Kohala, appointing a committee of five members. And it was that committee which thought over the program of the day, and considered what would satisfy the lives of the people. This was under the wise leadership of Mrs. M. K. Stillman, the Chairman of the committee. All of the activities were held at Hinakahua, Kapaʻau.
O Mr. Editor: From what is understood, the responsibility and the weight of the work fell upon this woman, the one who gave her feminine form to attend to the good of the land, and for the benefit of all, should they be a patriot. And as such she had the honor of naming the Hon. G. P. Kamauoha as Master of Ceremonies of the day, as per the program below approved by the patriots.
The Beginning.
Before the time arrived, the schools who were directed to participate in the activities of the day gathered together, they being, Makaolanakila School, Makapala Club, Hiki mai ka Lanakila Club, as well as the Fathers, Rev. S. C. Luhiau and Rev. S. W. Kekuewa, and the gentlemen, S. H. K. Ne, Solomon Kamaka, and the patriots of the land, and the gentlemen and ladies of the other ethnicities.
When the time came, that being 11 a.m., that was when the activities were begun by the day’s Master of Ceremonies, Hon. G. P. Kamauoha, just like the program below:
Master of Ceremonies, G. P. Kamauoha. Prayer, Rev. S. C. Luhiau. Hymn, “Ke Akua Mana Loa” Makaolanakila Group.

Hymn, “Lā Kūʻokoʻa.” Hiki mai ka Lanakila Group. Jubilee Speech of Aloha, Rev. S. W. Kekuewa. Joint Hymn, “Kuʻu ʻĀina Hānau ē.”
The remainder of the time, began with only hymns, from the choral groups.

When the activities of the day were over, everyone was invited to enter into the festooned area to fill up, where foods were prepared skillfully by Mrs. M. K. Stillman and her assistants. The entire assembly partook; the ones for whom the lands belonged, as well as the gentlemen and ladies of other ethnicities. All things were peaceful.
With appreciation,

Secretary of the Day.

At least two of the songs sung that day were most likely composed by Solomon Kala Kaunamano: “Lā Kūʻokoʻa” and “Liliʻulani.” The lyrics of both can be found in Hawaii Holomua, December 23, 1893, p. 1.

O Hawaiʻi, O Hawaiʻi
Let us join together in happiness
On this wonderful holiday
Independence Day for you, O Lāhui.
Chorus:
Independence Day for you, O Hawaiʻi
Joyous day for the Lāhui
O ʻĪ, O Mahi, along with the Palena
Let us happily join together.
O Hawaiʻi, O Hawaiʻi
For you is this day with reverence
Mountain ridges of yours, cheer
Green fields, enjoy together.
O Hawaiʻi, O Hawaiʻi
E Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono
The Heavenly Powers lend their support
To your Independence for all times.
