Aloha Nūhou Monday!

1In English, Waterhouse’s shop was called “Bee Hive.”

2Halewai literally translates to “Waterhouse,” and was just one of the names for John Thomas Waterhouse. Other names you will find him under are “Walakahausi” and “Walakahauki.”

3Hawaiians were reading about camels from at least March 14, 1834, when “kamelo” were first described in Ka Lama Hawaii.
