UNIQLO is continuing its UTme! Project: Together in Hawaiʻi by releasing brand new Bishop Museum designs from the latest exhibition, Backyard Adventures.
UNIQLO is a Japanese clothing apparel company with over 1000 stores located around the world. UTme! is a custom printing service that allows customers to express their creativity through design and create original UTs (Uniqlo T-shirts) and tote bags using photos, text, or in this case, illustrated stamps. UNIQLO’s Together in Hawaiʻi mission aims to share and celebrate the people, art, history, culture, and lifestyles of Hawaiʻi in a genuine way. Moreover, proceeds support Bishop Museum.
This year, we released three new illustrated stamps to coincide with the opening of the Museum’s newest exhibition, Backyard Adventures. Designed and illustrated by in-house graphic designer, Ross Yamanaka, these images will be available for custom printing at the UNIQLO located in Ala Moana Shopping Center.
“UNIQLO does a great job at highlighting brands that showcase Hawaiʻi. Visitors, even local people like myself, enjoy seeing the nostalgic logos of brands that are iconic to the Islands. We are proud to be included in this project and look forward to seeing what the community creates with our new stamps.” – Milton Lafitaga, Director of Corporate Relations and Partnerships
Backyard Adventures is an interactive science exhibit that engages guests with the wonders that can be found in their own backyards. It aims to inspire the next generation of citizen scientists while emphasizing the importance—and fun—of outdoor activity and exploration with activities such as a giant skipping rope and backyard-themed mini golf.
“Backyard Adventures is a natural complement to our mission, natural sciences collection, and research here at Bishop Museum. Since Bishop Museum emphasizes the importance of natural sciences, biodiversity, and conservation, this exhibit puts science in action and encourages citizen science for all ages through engaging and playful interactives in a setting familiar to many ʻohana.
“Our hope is that Backyard Adventures will instill a love of the sciences in many of our guests and show how they can start their own scientific journeys and research, in their homes and outdoors.” – Brandon Bunag, Vice President of Public Programs
