Member Spotlight – Vivian Pham

Why did you decide to become a Member?
I have fond memories of visiting Bishop museum as a little girl and love the various exhibits I’ve seen as an adult — from the observatory to the surf exhibit, I feel like there’s an activity for everyone that visits.

What has been a favorite or memorable exhibit, program, or event for you?
I am forgetting the name of the exhibit but it must’ve been late 2018 and it was a mural of Hawaiian artists that painted their image of hope for future generations. On the other side, the mural showcased the pain and suffering juxtaposed next to an exhibit showcasing old ads, art, and music of “Hawaiʻi” represented in the 1960s. I wept when I saw this, felt the raw pain and emotion. I’ve never been moved by art like I was that day.

Editorʻs Note: The above is in reference to the Museum’s “Unreal: Hawaiʻi in Popular Imagination” exhibit.

What’s a favorite membership benefit?
Free parking and being able to bring guests!

As a resident of Hawaiʻi, it’s wonderful to have a place where you can delve into the rich history of Hawaiian culture in various ways. I love the engagement and activities that Bishop Museum has to offer for all ages.
